Like all other major Premier League clubs, Arsenal are also expected to do some quality business in the summer. As of now, we do know, the Gunners are set to lose their long serving defender Bacary Sagna, who has himself admitted to leave, in the summer.
Along with Sagna, Arsenal could lose their skipper Thomas Vermaelen as well, who has dropped down the pecking orders at the club, behind Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
Vermaelen has only made seven Premier League starts last season and 14 over all, that shows, he is no longer the first choice in Arsene Wenger’s plan. And for a player of his stature, he deserves to get more game time but unfortunately he is struggling to get that at the North London club . Furthermore, his contract expires in 2015 and high time for Arsenal to cash in on the Belgium international.
Last month, TMW reported that Fiorentina were targeting a double deal for Arsenal duo Veramelen and Arteta. Now, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, relayed by TMW, several European heavy weights, including Monaco, Bayern Munich and host of Italian clubs like Napoli and Fiorentina are vying for Vermaelen’s signature.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal hold on to him next season or cash in on him to the highest bidder. Should Arsenal sell him? Share your reactions below…
