The defensive situation gets worse for Barcelona

Barcelona were in Reus, Spain for training when the French left-back Eric Abidal limped out of the training session and he will be out for six to eight weeks after doctors confirmed a tear in his left abductor muscle. Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta also had to leave training early with slight knocks but that was to be on the safe side rather than because of the seriousness of the injury.

Pep Guardiola’s defense was already without Dani Alves, Yaya Toure, Rafael Marquez and Pique for the Sunday’s game against Atletico Madrid. It is not Abidal’s first injury this season as he came back injured from the international break when the doctors thought he will be out for three weeks but he was able to recover earlier.

This could very well be a chance for Maxwell and Dmytro Chygrynskiy to prove themselves at Barcelona and Gabriel Milito to make a come back after his long, long injury.
