Manchester United could miss out on yet another midfield target after reports emerging in Spain, that Valencia are leading the race to sign Benfica’s highly rated Argentine midfielder Enzo Perez.
Last month, reports emerged in Portugal that ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes scouted Perez personally during his trip to Portugal. United had made contacts over the availability of the player, where Benfica president has made it clear, the club won’t sell the player for anything less than €30m, which is his buy-out clause.
The scenario has changed following the appointment of new manager Louis van Gaal, who will like to bring his own type of players, and going by the reports it doesn’t seem like the Dutchman is interested in Perez.
Spanish newspaper Superdeporte reports that La Liga outfit Valencia are leading the race to sign the technically gifted Argentine midfielder.
Valencia, cash fuelled by businessman Peter Lim, have moved in quickly to secure a deal for the 28-year-old. They have contacted with the player’s representatives Bankia where they’re evaluating the player’s transfer value.
Perez joined Benfica in 2011 from Estudiantes for €5.5m and has established himself as one of the top midfielders for Benfica.
It seems that with the departure of Moyes, the interest in the player has also died down. Juventus are also interested but as it stands, Valencia seems to be the likely destination for Perez in summer.
