Real Madrid defender is being tracked by several Premier League clubs. Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are among the names who are closely monitoring his situation, as the player is yet to sign a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Following last night’s defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Copa Del Rey, the Spaniard expressed his liking for a particular area of the Premier League in the post-match interview. According to Ramos, a penalty awarded to Atletico was very harsh on his side, but he found that he couldn’t criticise the referees without escaping punishment in Spain.
“I’m not going to talk about controversial issues and certainly not that incident,” he told Spanish newspaper AS. “The only thing I will say is that, with every passing day, I prefer the English Premier League.
“What am I talking about? Obviously not about the ball-boys … the style of play, refereeing. People enjoy watching that competition. When one loses, it’s easy to focus on the refereeing decisions.”
Real went on to lose the game 2-0, and face an uphill battle to overturn the deficit in the second leg. This was also their third successive loss in all competitions, following an incredible 22-match winning streak.
Manchester United and Arsenal will both gobble up the opportunity to sign Ramos, as both sides lack an experienced head at the back. The 28 year-old, who has won 3 La Liga titles and a Champions League in the Spanish capital, is a perfect fit.
Chelsea, in the meanwhile, are in the market for a defender to find a replacement for John Terry, who is 34 and in the closing stages of his career. Ramos and Jose Mourinho shared a steely relationship during the latter’s time as Real manager between 2010 and 2013, but the versatile defender’s qualities are unquestionable.
