Arsenal’s hope of signing Serge Aurier has taken a serious blow after the defender’s agent admitted the Gunners have not made contact with Toulouse for the right-back.
The Independent earlier reported the North London club are lining up a £7m bid to replace Bacary Sagna at the Emirates. The French international’s contract will expire later this month and has already confirmed he is leaving Arsenal this summer.
Earlier we reported that Sagna is set to join Manchester City in the coming transfer window and Arsene Wenger is preparing a move in signing Aurier as a replacement for his compatriot.
However, the Ivory Coast international’s agent Stephane Courbis admitted there has been no contact from Arsenal for a while.
“There is no agreement with Arsenal or anyone else. There have been discussions with Arsenal in the past, but it’s been a while since there has been any talks,” Courbis told RMC.
“To tell you the truth, we are even talking to another English club, so there is really nothing to act upon.”
The agent’s latest comments come will come as a massive blow for Wenger and Arsenal as they were keen on signing the talented right-back, who is considered as one of the star players of the Ligue 1 during the 2013-14 season.
However, there is some hope for Arsenal and their fans in order to seal a deal for the defender. Earlier, Aurier confirmed to a fan that he will replace Sagna at the North London club next season.
“I’ve never prioritised a club in England as even the promoted clubs are respectable,” Aurier told Eurosport France in May.
“I will privilege the one that will show the most interest in me, that will give me the most game time. After that, you can’t really say ‘no’ to Arsenal. It’s a club with history, with a French manager, who has welcomed many French players.”
