According to reports from the Guardian, Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is set to join Juventus on a free transfer. The trusted and reliable Gianluca Di Marzio website from Italy have reported that Khedira is set to undergo his medical later this week before an official confirmation can be made.
The recent developments will come as a huge blow for Arsenal and Chelsea who were heavily linked with the 28 year old German midfielder since the last summer transfer window. Khedira has hardly played for Real this season, making just 13 appearances for the Los Blancos and the arrival of Lucas Silva in January saw him fall further back in the pecking order.
Juventus general manager, Beppe Marotta, said on Tuesday as quoted by the Guardian, “Khedira is an opportunity in this market because his contract is running out. We have thought about it and are still reflecting on it as we have to take in many factors.”
TMW have reported that Khedira is set to sign a three or a four deal with the Bianconeri and will earn a net salary of €4.5m per season.
The German’s arrival in Turin puts the future of Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal under doubts, but Marotta claims that the club will do everything possible to keep hold of their prized assets. Marotta said, “We want to consolidate our position in Italy and in Europe. To do that we need to reinforce the squad, a squad that already is very strong. And that means that we want to keep the core of this group and our most important players.”
