What They Said: Ferguson on Liverpool manager, players back Chelsea boss

Chelsea have made their worst start to a season since 1978, having lost four matches already in just eight league games.

Jose Mourinho’s side are trailing league leaders Manchester City by ten points and the Chelsea manager has admitted it would be difficult to challenge for the title.

Belgium winger Eden Hazard however insists Jose Mourinho is still the right manager for Chelsea and has admitted the players have been severely under performing.

Several Chelsea players (John Terry, Diego Costa et al) have already spoken out in support of their manager, who also received a public vote of confidence from the club after Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat against Southampton, and Hazard becomes the latest player to lent full support to his under fire manager.

“There is no better coach than him with the pressure,” Hazard said as quoted by The Times. “He can still do excellently this season.”

“It’s a bit of the sum of individuals and collective [displays] causing the downturn,” he said. “After Arsenal we thought it would get better but that was not the case. We continue to work and there are better days at Chelsea. ”

Hazard, named Player of the Year last season, also admits that he is going through a challenging phase in his career. The Belgium winger has created 26 chances (second best in the league) for Chelsea, but has struggled to get his name on the scoresheet for the Blues so far. He has scored 3 goals in last 3 games for his national team, but has failed to score in each of his last 12 competitive games for Chelsea.

“It is the first time that I’m going through such a difficult period,” he said. “But by working I’m going there to try to get through. It is not dramatic. I have not often experienced such moments. But in any career there are highs and lows. It is a new stage. We work to get back to the best level.”
