According to eminent Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, reigning Spanish Champions Atletico Madrid have spoken to Santi Cazorla’s advisers about a summer move from Arsenal.
Cazorla has been in inspired form this season and has arguably been the Gunners’ best player this season beside new signing Alexis Sanchez. Atletico are believed to be serious about the 30 year old Spaniard’s ability and could well make a move in the summer.
Balague told Revista, “Cazorla has 18 months left on his contract at Arsenal and Atletico have contacted his entourage. Atletico are convinced that they can persuade the player to join them. Then they just have to pay the money. There will be one year left on his contract in the summer, and will be available for cheaper.”
Another Spanish Football expert Gaizka Mendieta believes that Atletico could well do with a player of Cazorla’s potential, someone who can pull the strings from midfield and hold the ball with his flawless technical ability.
Mandieta said, “When Arda Turan and Koke are not there, Cazorla will be a great addition. He knows La Liga perfectly, so it will work for him.”
Arsenal will thus have to make a decision on the player in the coming summer. Will they cash in for a 30 year old or hand him a contract extension to see out his career at the North London side.
