Newcastle have been linked with the signing of unsettled Liverpool attacker Divock Origi, according to The Chronicle.

The Magpies have made signing a new number nine a priority this summer. They have been strongly linked with the likes of Salomon Rondon and Alassane Plea whom they have subsequently lost out on to Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee of £22 million.

Rondon is vastly experienced at Premier League level, though whether he will offer quality is another matter.

Last season, the 28-year-old managed just several goals from 37 appearances in the Premier League as the Baggies were relegated to the Championship.

If the Magpies fail to secure the signature of Rondon, they may turn their attention to Origi.

Origi’s future at Anfield lies in the balance as he may not receive regular playing time with the Reds next season and he will be looking to play regular football next season in order to kick-start his career.

Origi arrived at Liverpool during the summer of 2014 as an highly-rated youngster following impressive performances for Belgium during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

However, since then, he has not achieved as expected and even missed the cut for the Belgium squad which recently placed third at the World Cup in Russia.

At just 23-years-old, however, Origi still has age on his side and the Magpies could offer him perfect opportunities to find confidence again.
