The France international refused to go on tour with the squad as he wants his contract terminated in order to allow him leave.
The 33-year-old has one more year left on his current contract, but he wants to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer as a free agent.
Bordeaux and Lyon are also keen on securing the services of Koscielny, but Rennes looked to have pipped them to his signature.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will let him leave, but the player’s legal representatives and the club’s are due to meet in the coming days in order to discuss a termination agreement.
Koscielny’s exit will deal a huge blow on manager Unai Emery’s defensive plans for next season, but the Spaniard has most likely already come up with a plan ahead of the Frenchman’s potential departure.
Arsenal have beaten Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Saint Etienne centre-back William Saliba, but the youngster won’t arrive until next summer as he is set to spend next season on loan with the French club.
