It seems like Germany midfielder Sami Khedira will stay at Real Madrid this seasonafter recent reports suggested that Carlo Ancelotti is keen to retain his services. However, does he have a long term future at the club? The 27-year-old has one year remaining on his contract but Madrid are unlikely to present him a new extension offer. In such a scenario, the Los Blancos are already looking for options elsewhere and have targeted Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo, according to reports from Spain.
El Confidencial claim Madrid have already started informal talks with the player and with Wolfsburg over a possible move. The chances of Khedira signing a new contract is less and therefore could leave the club next season on a free transfer, lest, Madrid may cash in on him now as well. The newspaper claim that Khedira and his agent feels a move now to any other top European clubs would be ideal, hence Madrid are exploring the options of signing Gustavo.
Last month Gianluca di Marzio reported that several Premier League clubs, including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United had shown an interest in him, but the Bundesliga outfit are not looking to sell their prized asset at the moment. He has a contract till 2018, with a release clause of €33m.
Gustavo is a solid defensive midfielder and would add quality to any team, but hard to see any Premier League clubs paying such high transfer fee for him any time soon.
