Arsenal travel to Old Trafford this Sunday to face Manchester United looking to extend their ‘just-see- and-admire-helplessly’ impressive away unbeaten record to 16 games. 8 points separate the two sides at the moment and another victory for the Gunners will almost bid sayonara to Man Utd’s title credentials.
David Moyes has yet to earn a victory against top teams in the league. Another defeat against a big team and suddenly people will start asking questions about his ability to handle the pressure in big matches.
On the flip side a victory against their arch rivals will put Moyes and his team in favourable light once again. United are unbeaten in their last 5 matches and another good result will convince everyone that the Red Devils have strongly bounced back after a stuttering start and are on the right track under their new manager. Secondly, they will close the gap with the Gunners to 5 points only which will give them a major lift in the race for title.
From Arsenal’s point of view, they need to break their Old Trafford hoodoo on Sunday. They must. Their last victory came at this venue in 2006/07, when Adebayor’s goal earned them a 1-0 victory, while Arsenal fans will remember they were severely humiliated with an 8-2 scoreline only two seasons ago.
This is a massive game for the Red Devils and although Arsenal can afford to drop points, after getting such a healthy start, they simply must look to break the OT jinx to march forward in their quest for silverware. The juggernaut must roll on. Aaron Ramsey has given a sharp riposte to Wayne Rooney’s claim that Arsenal would struggle in the second half of the season, by claiming they normally do well post Christmas, and since they’ve torn asunder the tag of ‘poor-starter’ this season, there is a high chance, they could go all the way till the end.
