French champions Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a massive bid for Manchester United’s Argentine winger Angel di Maria, according to reports from The Times.
PSG are expected to open the bidding at £45m, but United would demand a fee in the region of £59m, the amount they paid Real Madrid to sign him last summer.
Louis van Gaal has expressed his desire to keep the player at the club, but at the same time, the Dutchman maintained that he would be reluctant to hold the Argentine against his wishes. It has been widely reported that Di Maria and his family are not happy at Manchester.
Di Maria wasn’t included in the Manchester United squad that arrived in Seatlle for the pre-season tour to United States, after being granted an extended holiday due to their participation in the Copa America with Argentina.
The Times suggest that PSG are hopeful of making a significant breakthrough in the deal, within next fortnight.
The Paris club have already outlined a five-year-contract where Di Maria would be earning £230,000-a-week wages. The club however are unwilling to sell Edinson Cavani, a reported Manchester United target, as a part of any deal for Di Maria.
Bayern Munich are also thought to be interested in Di Maria, but like PSG, they are not willing to include Robert Lewandowski as a part of any deal.
Should United sell Di Maria to PSG? Di Maria is a good player no doubt, but I would be more than happy to trade with PSG, if I were the manager, for the price quoted above.
