It was an eventful week in the Premier League.

Sergio Aguero equaled a Premier League scoring record, Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers was sacked and Arsenal looked like title contenders after destroying Manchester United.

After some cracking action over the last two days, we look at some of the important talking points from this game week.

Brendan Rodgers has no one to blame

The under-fire Liverpool boss has been shown the door. Hours after a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside Derby, Brendan Rodgers was informed about his future over a phone call from FSG.

Although some have labeled the decision as ‘shocking & harsh’, the writing was always on the wall. The former Swansea manager was given one last chance to turn it around after a massive summer outlay and he failed.

Furthermore, his constant talk of rebuilding and playing down expectations at Liverpool did not go down well with the owners or the fans.

“With a wee bit of luck, we can win against Everton”, he said in his pre-derby presser.

The northern Irishman did himself no favours on and off the pitch. Not only did he fail to win games, he also failed to grasp the importance of an all important, Merseyside Derby.

Mesut Ozil was always brilliant

The World cup winner is making headlines today for his impressive display against Manchester United.

It’s almost as if nobody expects him to be that good.

However, a quick look through his career shows that Ozil was always a world class player and did not just explode overnight.

The Arsenal midfielder has been heavily criticized since his 42.5 million pound move to England and is rarely given credit for all the good he does.

Ozil put on a spectacular showing against Manchester United and silenced his critics in some style.

The German scored a goal and set up another as Arsenal completed a stunning 3-0 win over Manchester United.

Sergio Aguero is back!

The Manchester City star has struggled since the start of the season and has missed plenty of easy chances over the last couple of months.

The Argentine striker, who has been a star in England, since his arrival from Atletico Madrid has once again shown why he is by far the best striker in the Premier league.

After a poor half against Newcastle, Manchester City came out all guns blazing and it was Sergio Aguero, who was leading the charge.

The striker netted FIVE times as Manchester City piled further misery on a hapless Newcastle side.

Time is running out for Jose Mourinho

Different week, same story for Chelsea and Jose Mourinho.

The Premier league champions crashed to yet another defeat against Southampton, at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were outplayed by Ronald Koeman’s Southampton and are 16th in the table, with 8 points from 8 games.

Roman Abramovich was in attendance as the Saints dismantled Chelsea in front of the Stamford bridge faithful.

With the likes of Carlo Ancelotti out of a job, the pressure keeps mounting on Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese needs to deliver, or it could go south on him very soon.

Claudio Ranieri is making big decisions and he is getting them right

The Leicester City boss raised a few eyebrows with his decision to rest the most in form player in the league, Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian has been sensational so far, but the former Chelsea manager decided to drop him against Norwich. The Italian wanted to beef up his midfield, instead.

Ranieri’s decision worked like a charm and Leicester reaped the benefits of a compact midfield.
