The Premier League is rapidly approaching the final few months of competition, when a champion will be crowned. This incredible season has been full of surprises and with 12 games remaining, the title race is realistically between the top four clubs. Not many people would have guessed that Leicester City and even Tottenham Hotspur would be battling for the title, but these clubs are first and second respectively, and their chances of winning are growing each game. The top four clubs are separated by a mere six points and all of them have reason to win the Premier League in May.
Premier League title betting has been especially confusing for many punters, with pre-season favourites Chelsea and Manchester United out of the Champions League spots and Manchester City currently the least likeliest of the top four to lift the title in May. While betting services like Guts demystify sports betting for new bettors and veterans alike, the real challenge comes in a tight race like this season, with four teams equally capable of winning by May.
It may go down as the greatest underdog victory if Leicester City were to pull off the unthinkable and go from avoiding relegation one year to winning the league the next year. Leicester is currently in first position, but are only three points ahead after a disappointing defeat to Arsenal over the weekend. Leicester City does have one advantage over their competition, being that they only have the Premier League to worry about. They were knocked out of the FA Cup and do not play in any European competitions, such as the Europa League or the Champions League. This means that they can play their strongest team every week and not be overloaded on fixtures.
Tottenham have been a consistent top 6 team over the last few years and have produced incredible players such as Gareth Bale, but few believed that they would be in a position to win the league at the end of the 2015/16 season. The Spurs sit in second place in the league, just three points behind Leicester City. Tottenham is the only club in the top four that are in the Europa League and are arguably one of the favorites to win that competition as well. Tottenham has been the most consistent team in the Premier League recently and have won their last games, not losing or even drawing in over a month. They also have momentum after just coming off of a 2-1 win over Manchester City.
Arsenal has been one of the most consistent clubs in the last 10 years, finishing either fourth or third every season. It is not a surprise to see Arsenal battling for a title, but it would certainly be a huge accomplishment for the club. Arsenal are considered one of the best teams in the Premier League by many, but have not won the league since 2004. This season provides a great opportunity to win the league, as they tied with Tottenham and are only three points behind Leicester City after beating them 2-1. While Arsenal may lack a consistent goal scorer, they can certainly rely on Mesut Ozil to create chances and provide assists. Ozil has an astonishing 17 assists this season in the league and this alone could be enough to see Arsenal win the league.
Manchester City have had the four best years in the club’s history after winning two Premier League titles in 2012 and 2014 along with being second in 2013 and 2015. With Sergio Aguero leading the attack, they are certainly the team to beat on paper, but things have not gone quite to plan this season. Manchester City are currently in 4th place in the Premier League and are six points behind leaders Leicester City. While Manchester City may be six points back, they have the experience to rally back and make up ground on the leaders. After finishing in the top two positions in every one of the last four seasons, they certainly know how to get the job done and finish on top.
