Arsenal overtook Manchester City to regain top spot in the Premier League after the Gunners earned a scrappy 1-0 victory over Newcastle at the St. James’ Park.
The Gunners created several chances early on, but it was Newcastle who created best opportunities and almost went ahead in the first half, when Mathieu Debuchy headed against the bar.
But, once again Arsenal showed enough resilience and mental fortitude as they took the lead in the 65th min and preserved it till the end. Olivier Giroud scored his eighth league goals of the season as he nodded in Theo Walcott’s free-kick.
Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker posted a picture on Facebook, along with arguably the best performer for the Gunners, Tomas Rosicky and defensive partner Koscielny.
