France’s World Cup defender Mathieu Debuchy has completed his switch to Arsenal from Newcastle United on Thursday.
The Gunners had Bacary Sagna as the first choice right-back in the squad until the end of the last season. However, the Frenchman left the Emirates and joined Manchester City earlier in the transfer window.
The 28-year-old revealed that he is delighted to have joined Arsenal and has admitted that he is looking forward to work under Arsene Wenger.
“I’m very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the whole world,” Debuchy told Arsenal’s official website.
“I’m looking forward to working with Arsène Wenger and to helping the team build on last season’s FA Cup success. Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies.”
