Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, says that Eden Hazard, the Chelsea forward, has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have shared football’s top individual prize in the last nine seasons, with the Argentine winning it on five occasions. These two players are arguably the greatest footballers of this generation, and have achieved huge success for their club and country.
Both Ronaldo and Messi scores an incredible amount of goals every year, and are playing at a level which seems almost impossible for others to catch up with – as if they belong to – a separate strata higher than the rest of the players around.
Pogba does not think that their dominance is due to end any time soon, but the Frenchman believes that there are plenty of players who could challenge the established order in the future. He says that Zlatan Ibrahimović, Hazard, Neymar and Luis Suárez are the likely candidates who can break Messi and Ronaldo’s dominance.
The Frenchman said, as quoted by BeinSports:
Of course, there are other players who can do that. We have Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] at Manchester United. Even he could do it. He’s 35 years old, but the way he’s playing, the way he’s scoring goals, you can see that he’s been in the top level for more than 10 years.
[Eden] Hazard, Neymar, [Luis] Suarez are doing so well and scoring goals, these are great players who – if they keep scoring – can do that. They need to keep scoring though, because that’s the case with Cristiano and Messi, whose performances are always on top.
Pogba, however, adds that Messi and Ronaldo’s dominance may end, if and when they stop scoring goals. The former Juventus midfielder believes that even if there are players who are as good as Messi or Ronaldo, the way these two carry themselves on and off the pitch is incredible. He admits that both these players inspire him to improve even more.
Hazard, who reportedly earns £200,000 wages per week, is enjoying a great season with Chelsea. The Belgium forward has scored nine goals in the Premier League already, and his impressive form has taken Chelsea to the top of the Premier League after 20 games. Hazard has the potential to become one of the world’s best in the future, but in order to do so, he needs to add more goals to his name.
