Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi will play in the Champions League playoff round against Monaco if his future is not resolved by Tuesday, according to Superdeporte.
Otamendi will keep training normally with Los Che and will feature in the Champions League if negotiations for his transfer are not concluded ahead of the crucial playoff round tie on Wednesday.
The Argentine, who is currently in pre-season training with the Mestalla outfit, has been heavily linked with a move away from Valencia with Premier League clubs Manchester City and Manchester United hot on the centre-back’s heels throughout the summer.
Should Otamendi play in the Champions League playoffs, he will be cup-tied to Valencia for the competition which could make him a less attractive prospect for clubs chasing his signature.
Manchester City are in pole position to sign the 27-year-old as the Eastlands club would get him at a cheaper price as Valencia owe them money from the Alvaro Negredo transfer, which was completed earlier this summer.
Valencia are up against French outfit Monaco on Wednesday night at the Mestalla in the first leg of the playoff round tie. The second leg is scheduled on the 25th of August in Monaco.
Otamendi featured for the first time in Los Che’s colours in pre-season during their friendly defeat to Roma last weekend.
