Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has hinted that he would listen to offers for striker Edin Dzeko in the summer.
The 26-year-old is the top scorer for the reigning Premier League champions’ with 13 goals in all competitions (12 in the league) but the Bosnian has been linked with a move away to Germany.
Dzeko has made a reputation for himself as a “super-sub” at City, a term which he refuses to accept. He has also raised concerns at various points about his frustrations for not getting regular first team chances despite playing well.
Of course, it is indeed frustrating for a player, who joined City for a reported fee of £27 million, to make only 11 starts (13 as sub) this season.
Mancini was quoted in the press:
“But in June anything can happen. If a player asks me to leave, we will evaluate the situation – this applies for all players.
“Dzeko, for me, is a great player. In Italy he could score more than 20 goals a season but he would cost €20 million (£17 million), maybe more.”
City will be looking to rebuild their squad in the summer and some players might get the axe in order to accommodate newer recruits. One of them could be Dzeko, who has been recently linked with a move to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
However, not many clubs can afford to pay £17-20 million for a striker, so keeping that factor in mind, let us find out which clubs could go for him in the summer.
Borussia Dortmund
Though manager Jurgen Klopp reacted to the Dzeko-rumour as “nonsense and not funny anymore” but there are strong suggestions that striker Robert Lewandowski might leave the club in summer to either Manchester United or Bayern Munich. Dortmund can use the money to bring in a quality player like Dzeko easily.
Arsenal
City under no condition will sell the player to any other rival English clubs and that excludes Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger will be provided a lump-sum amount of money (as per regular reports in English press) to reshape the squad in summer and the Frenchman could easily go for the Bosnian.
Juventus
The Old Lady were keen for Dzeko last summer, if some of the reports of English press are believed to be true. They were left disappointed that time but this summer, could get their man if right amount of money presented on City’s table.
Napoli
To connect every single player of City with Napoli doesn’t need rocket science. The reason is simple. City are targeting Serie A top scorer Edinson Cavani in the summer and could use Dzeko in the make-way deal.
While Dzeko was also linked with AC Milan last summer, but it is too much to expect from City to sell both their star strikers to the same club in two back to back transfer windows.
