The transfer saga of Edinson Cavani is one of the many interesting ones to follow this summer. After being close to agreeing a move to Juventus last week, the Paris Saint-Germain striker now looks like he is going to stay put at the Parc des Princes. This is after the comments from the club’s President Nasser Al Khelaifi, following his side’s Ligue 1 triumph’s celebrations on Sunday. After the match, Cavani said to the fans, “Thank you everyone, see you next season.”
In an interview to the media, as relayed here by Gianluca Di Marzio where he spoke on a wide range of transfer stories related to the club, Al Khelaifi had the following to say about Cavani:
“Cavani said that we’ll see each other next season? Certainly, we have said the same thing at every opportunity. Edinson is the future of the club- he told Telefoot- he’ll stay here and we’ll prove he’s a great striker and man.”
The Uruguayan has been played out wide at PSG, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the line. There has been an ongoing story for almost a year now that he is unhappy and wants to leave the French capital. But the club have always managed to keep hold of him despite all the rumours. His tally of 53 goals in 92 games for the French side in all competitions prove how valuable his contribution has been.
Manchester United and Arsenal have been linked with him for some time now, and the Red Devils are considered among the frontrunners to sign him this summer. Valued at around €50 million, the 28 year-old will be a fantastic addition to any squad, let alone a side like United struggling to find goalscoring options up front.
Arsenal too are in the market for a world-class striker who can spearhead a title charge next season, and Cavani fits the bill perfectly with his avid European experience and goalscoring pedigree.
