The summer transfer window may be over but the rumour mill is omnipresent. Despite domestic leagues and European competitions in full flow there are lot to speculate if we are to anticipate the ‘fast approaching’ January transfer market.
We bring you a roundup of all the latest transfer stories including Manchester United’s January move for a sensational striker while Arsenal eye a Russian striker.
Manchester United set to move for Sadio Mane in January:
The Daily Star reports that Manchester United are set to make a January move for Southampton striker Sadio Mane in the upcoming January transfer window. The Senegal international has been in stunning form this season scoring 2 goals and grabbing 4 assists in the Premier League so far.
United had a £15m bid rejected for the player in the summer but it is reported that Louis Van Gaal believes that the 23 year will add significant squad depth for the Red Devils in the winter transfer window.
The report also quoted Saints manager Ronald Koeman admitting that it would be tough to keep hold of Mane in the future. He said, “Maybe one day we will lose Mane but then we have to be prepared. You know in our situation that kind of player, if they play like today, there will come a lot of interest in the end of the season, but now we enjoy watching Mane in our team.”
Arsenal made loan approach for Russian striker in the summer:
The Metro have quoted a Russian daily Sovsport claiming that Arsenal had made a loan approach for Dynamo Moscow striker Aleksandr Kokorin in the summer transfer window.
The Russian side’s manager Andrey Kolebev confirmed the news claiming that the Gunners made an approach for the player but the move was turned down. Kolebev was quoted saying, “There were substantial discussions on Kokorin, but it did not happen. We vetoed a loan. I believe that Alexander deserves more than a loan.”
Elsewhere Celta Vigo striker Nolito has opened up on speculations linking with a move to Arsenal in January. The 28 year old Spaniard was quoted saying to Mundo Deportivo as relayed by the Daily Mirror, “As I said, I try to keep it out, it’s not good to be distracted with these things.”
And Finally, Barcelona have admitted interest in signing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba in the January transfer window. The report from Daily Express states that the Camp Nou have stepped up their pursuit in signing the French midfielder who was heavily linked with Chelsea in the summer.
The report quotes Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez saying, “The amount he’d cost has to be considered. But you can find a solution for that. We have freedom to work [after a transfer ban] and when the time comes we’ll sit down and decide.”
