Initially the Brazilian wanted to move on from the Catalan giants, but the reaction he got from the club and the fans after winning the treble is thought to have planted a seed of doubt in his mind.

Sport claim that Alves is now considering staying and is torn between Barcelona’ latest offer and that of Manchester United.

According to the report, Manchester United have offered more money than Barcelona in a bid to lure the coveted Brazilian to Old Trafford, this summer.

It is also believed that Italian giants, Milan and Roma have made an offer. However, the Brazilian is not keen on a move to Serie A and will reject them.

Louis Van Gaal has had to field a makeshift defence a few times this season. Injury to his only right back Rafael has left him with no choice to play a winger as a full back. It is believed that the Dutchman is keen to sign a right back this summer.

Initially linked with Nathaniel Clyne, Manchester United have ended their pursuit of the England international due to Southampton’ demands. The Saints are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of 16 million pounds, which is considered as a excessive for a player in the last year of his contract.

Manchester United can definitely use a player of Alves’ quality on the right. Further, apart from his on pitch influence, Alves could prove to be a shrewd acquisition off the pitch. His professionalism and respect for teammates will not only affect the first team, but will provide a fantastic learning curve for the youngsters as well.
