According to reports from leading German newspaper Bild, Borussia Dortmund could finally sell their star defender Mats Hummels for €45m in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 26 year old has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United while Arsenal are also interested in the centre back.
Louis Van Gaal is set to go shopping for a quality defender who can strengthen United’s back four and Hummels would be a terrific addition for the Red Devils. Dortmund have endured a poor Bundesliga season and it is believed that missing out on a Champions League berth will force them to sell their prized asset. Hummels though has a contract with the German club till 2017.
The report states that Van Gaal had tried to sign Hummels while he was in charge of Bayern Munich but was unsuccessful. Thus the Dutch legend is desperate to acquire the defender’s signature second time around. Dortmund though are unwilling to budge on their quoted price of €45m.
The figure is easily within reach of the Old Trafford side who are believed to plan a spending spree of €200m in the summer to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
