Benfica like other major Portugal clubs are a selling club. They have sold some of their star players already like Ezequiel Garay and Lazar Markovic in the past 12 months and could lose Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan as well this summer.
Gaitan has been targeted by French giants Monaco while La Liga winners Atletico Madrid have shown an interest in him as well.
The French heavy weight have sold James Rodriguez to Real Madrid and want to use a part of that money to sign the highly rated Argentine winger.
Manchester United seemingly have joined the race too according to Portugal newspaper Record. United are thought to be a long term admirers of Gaitan, who represents a cheaper option than Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria.
According to latest report from Record, Manchester United have lodged an official bid for Gaitan, but the newspaper haven’t disclosed the amount yet.
They claim the offer was more than what Atletico Madrid and Monaco had offered, but Benfica will continue to refuse such invitations, unless the player’s buy-out clause is met, which is something in the region of €45m.
