The 2015/16 season saw one of the best managers in football suffer a fall from grace as Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea went from champions of England to 14th.

Despite a disappointing third year at Chelsea, the Portuguese manager’s credentials as a manager are solid after a great wrap sheet spanning a 15-year career.

Since being dismissed from his job at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho has been in high demand with many teams eying a move for the Portuguese manager’s service.

However, one team, in particular, has been keeping close ties with Mourinho, and that side is fellow English Premier League giants Manchester United.

So far this season United have been disappointing under the management of Dutch boss Louis van Gaal. The side that once was the most dominant force in English football has been a far shadow of their reputation since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

Currently, van Gaal’s United sit fifth in the Premier League, and pressure is mounting on the Dutch manager to get United into the title race.

Although van Gaal has a contract till 2017, United could cash-in by appointing Mourinho at Old Trafford and here is why.

Throughout his career, Mourinho has been able to bring out the best from his players. Although his final season at Chelsea saw players turn on him, the Portuguese manager would be able to start afresh with a new squad full of players.

Mourinho should be able to get the best out of United youngsters such as Anthony Martial, Ander Herrera and the other young United players.

As well as this, the Special One has an uncanny ability to get the best out of the experienced players, which should get the troubled Wayne Rooney back on track. This balance should see the United squad return to their dominant era that has not been seen since the departure Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho’s style would also work wonders for Manchester United. The experienced manager has shown he can build a strong and stable defence, which has been absent in Manchester United’s side for a long time.

However, the real issue at United is goal-scoring.

Although this would be solved by Mourinho’s attacking style between midfield and attack, which should get the underperforming players back to a fast-paced attacking style once again.

Another attribute that Mourinho will bring the United is the ability to dream once again. Throughout the Special One’s time at both Real Madrid and Chelsea, the manager had the full backing of the fans despite being sacked from both jobs.

Manchester United fans have taken huge blows to their confidence over recent seasons.

However, Mourinho’s knowledge of the Premier League and his success in both domestic and European competitions should get the United fans back on side and return United back to the heights of not only England but Europe as well.

For now, there looks to be a tug-of-war occurring between major clubs across Europe for the former Chelsea manager’s services. Currently, Real Madrid has also expressed an interest in reappointing the Special One once again following disappointing results under Rafa Benitez.

Mourinho remains one of the most sought after managers in the game at the moment. With clubs across Europe weighing up decisions on managerial appointments, one obvious thing is that the Special One will not be out of a job for long.
