According to reports from English tabloid The Times, Manchester United have now been joined by fierce rivals Arsenal and Tottenham in pursuit of Barcelona right back Dani Alves. The Brazilian’s contract with the Camp Nou outfit expires in the coming summer and there have been no negotiations between the player the club for a possible contract extension.
Thus the report claims that the 31 year old right back might be free to negotiate a pre contract agreement with potential suitors. Both Arsenal and United have problems in the right back slots and might be thus interested to sign Alves in the upcoming January transfer window. The Red Devils manager Louis Van Gaal is concerned with the frequent injuries and defending inability of Rafael de Silva and believes that Alves’ experience could come in handy in the later part of the season.
Arsenal had earlier signed Mathieu Debuchy in the summer but the Frenchman’s long term injury has meant that Arsene Wenger has to deploy Calum Chambers at right back. However the youngster has made several mistakes which has kept Wenger concerned. Tottenham too have injury concerns with Kyle Walker’s abdominal problems as Erik Dier has had to feature out of position in the right wing back role.
A move to the Premier League looks enticing but Alves would like to sign an extension with the Catalan club due to family reasons. Barceloan however has signed Douglas Pereira from Sao Paulo £4.4m in the summer. The youngster has been tipped to take up from Alves in the right back role and is long term prospect for the Spanish giants.
