Arsenal are on the verge of completing their first deal in the January transfer window, as reports suggest, striker Lukas Podolski is all set to leave the club within next 48 hours.
The German international “should complete” his move to Inter Milan in the next 48 hours, per Jeremy Wilson of The Telegraph, leading to £5m permanent deal at the end of the season.
Inter already had an offer rejected, which Wenger branded as a joke but the Nerazzurri have returned with a serious offer this time.
Arsenal are keen to remove some of the fringe players from the squad and are planning to use that money in signing a defensive midfielder and a central defender.
Podolski missed Arsenal’s trip to Southampton with a groin injury on Thursday. Wenger gave an update on Inter’s second offer:
“The first proposal was farcical. After they come back a bit more serious. Inevitable in a transfer is very difficult to say but we’ll see what happens.”
Podolski has made 12 appearances this season for Arsenal and has scored three goals. Although he is regarded as one of the best finishers in the team, his unwillingness/failing to adapt to more central role and offer defensive protection to full-backs were the main reasons why he dropped down the pecking orders.
