According to reports in the trusted and reliable Italian media outlet TMW, Barcelona defender Martin Montoya could well be on his way to head towards the exit at Camp Nou in the upcoming January transfer window. The report has cited Sky Sports claiming that reigning Serie A Champions Juventus are optimistic about landing the 23 year old at Turin.
The Old Laddy have also made contacts with the player’s agent and will also soon hold talks with Barcelona over a potential transfer move. We had reported earlier that Liverpool are also interested in the right back who has had limited game time ever since Luis Enrique took over the reigns at Barcelona in the summer.
Montoya had earlier signed a five-year long term contract in summer, as a result his release clause now stands at €20m. There is no doubt that Juventus will thus look for a loan deal till the end of the season as it’s evident that the Old Lady won’t pay the astronomical figure for a right back who is so young and has so less experience.
Montoya was always considered a long term replacement of Dani Alves, the Brazilian right-rack, at Barcelona, but Enrique the youngster has been overlooked throughout the season. Montoya has also fallen below the pecking order, now behind behind Douglas and is currently the third choice defender at the Catalan club. The player would thus seek a move away from the club to get regular game time. But will Juventus be able to afford the player or will Liverpool sneak him at the right moment?
