Liverpool are set to battle Arsenal for Belgian under 21 striker Divock Origi, the teenager who plies his trade at French side Lille.
The 18 year old has scored five goals in 25 appearances in the French Ligue One and his growing reputation has attracted major Premier League clubs. Origi’s versatility in playing either as a left winger or a second striker is an asset for any side who prefer tactical flexibility on the pitch.
However the 18 year old’s major strength is his ability to dribble past defenders using his raw pace. He will be a major threat on either wings with his dazzling crossing ability and is also good in the air.
According to reports, Liverpool sent scouts to watch the Kenyan born Belgian in the weekend as Lille took on Valenciennes in the Ligue One season. Origi didn’t disappoint as his 70th minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides at the end.
Lille are currently third in the standings and should be able to muster a Champions League spot for next season. Liverpool’s overwhelming season has shown that manager Brendan Rodgers is not afraid of throwing youngsters in the biggest of stages with Raheem Sterling and Jon Flanagan being an integral part of the Premier League leaders.
Arsene Wenger’s knowhow in the French League has also shown how the Arsenal boss has landed cheap acquisitions in the past. With both the clubs showing interest in the teenager a summer swoop might be on the cards.
