Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Chelsea goal keeper Petr Cech, who is expected to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Cech has been linked with a move to Arsenal, after the 32-year-old lost his place in Jose Mourinho’s side to Thibaut Courtois.
According to The Guardian, the “Czech international may favour remaining in London with Arsenal, though there is strong interest from abroad.”
The Chelsea legend, who has played 485 times for Blues, is wanted by Liverpool, according to reports from Italy. TMW claim that Liverpool want Cech to replace Simon Mignolet in the summer, though Brendan Rodgers is highly unlikely to opt for that move.
Mignolet returned strongly in the second half of the season and kept 14 clean sheets, more than any other goal keeper in the Premier League this term. Liverpool indeed need a top class goal keeper but not to replace Mignolet, rather to add competition to the squad and on that context, Cech would be an ideal signing for the Reds.
After picking his fourth league trophy with Chelsea, Cech may need fresh challenges and therefore the time is right for him to move elsewhere. Chelsea would be reluctant to sell him to their direct rivals rather they would happily sell him to any foreign club.
