Liverpool chase €40m Busquets-type midfielder

Liverpool have joined the race to sign highly rated Porto’s young midfielder Ruben Neves, who is also targeted by Serie A giants Juventus and AC Milan, and several other Spanish clubs.

The Daily Mirror reports that Liverpool scouts have watched the player, who has made only 10 appearances for Porto, on three occasions.

The 17-year-old is a regular for Portugal U-21, and captained his country in the 2014 UEFA European U-17 Championship.

Portugal newspaper Record says Neves has recently renewed his contract with the Dragons that will keep him at the club till 2017 and has a release clause of €40m. He is highly rated in Portugal, has made his break through in the first team this season while his playing style has been compared with Barcelona’s world class midfielder Sergio Busquets.

The youngster is an excellent passer of the ball and is technically very strong, and therefore ideal for Brendan Rodgers’ system.

Porto are known to be a selling club and they would be looking to get maximum profit out of any deal; however, Liverpool or any other clubs probably won’t pay such high fee for the youngster.
