One of the most remarkable stories of this Premier League campaign has been the rise of Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy. Vardy has grown immensely over the last few years and has developed from the 7th tier of British Football to the international level for England.
Jamie Vardy has incredibly scored 15 goals in 17 games this season and is on course to possibly break the Premier League’s single season scoring record of 31 goals. Vardy has guided Leicester City to the top of the Premier League table approaching the January transfer window and there will be a lot of clubs looking to buy him. Should Leicester City sell their star man?
Leicester could make a huge profit from Vardy, after buying him from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for only £1 million. This has been a very surprising Premier League season so far with many of the biggest clubs greatly underperforming.
Many of these big clubs will want clinical strikers who can consistently score goals. These are two of Jamie Vardy’s finest qualities. The Leicester City striker has been linked with a price tag of about £30 million, which only the top teams would pay for a player.
If Jamie Vardy went to a club such as Chelsea, Manchester City or Arsenal, he would have a harder time getting into the starting lineup every week. At Leicester, Vardy does not have a problem getting into the starting lineup and he is expected to start every game.
It may be tempting for The Foxes to sell their star striker, but it may result in the downfall of their brilliant season. With Jamie Vardy in the Leicester team, everyone has confidence in him with someone up front that they can count on to score goals for them. If any of the key players were to leave the club, let alone Vardy, it may spread doubt among players as to whether they can perform well. Jamie Vardy has been an absolutely crucial piece to Leicester City’s squad this season and has helped them win games and build confidence among teammates.
Selling Vardy would be too big of a risk for Leicester City’s title hopes this season. They may be able to make some profit off of the striker, but they will struggle to find a replacement that has as much confidence as Vardy. He has been an instrumental part of Leicester City’s unbelievable season and it would not be the same if he left half-way through this incredible journey. Leicester City and Jamie Vardy cannot afford to let this big of an opportunity to win a title slip away.
