Sunderland on Sunday emphatically ended their season with a 5-0 trouncing of bottom club Luton Town at Kennilwoth Road.
Their end of season run of 20 games – starting on January 1st this year produced a phenomenal 16 wins, a single defeat and three draws.
In that period they scored 42 goals and conceded only 15 goals.
A tremendous run.
A Studious Roy Keane
Any team that can produce a run like that – at the exact right time – deserves to be promoted – and promoted as Champions.
Well done Sunderland – well done Keane and Quinn and the staff – and congratulations to the great Sunderland fans for their support throughout the season.
As Newcastle fans we look forward to another two great derby games next season – and of course we expect the black and whites to win both games – no argument there. 😀
As we have mentioned on this site before we believe Roy Keane is headed towards greatness as a manager – and think he could become even a better manager than he was a player.
But Roy Keane always keeps his feet on the ground – and ensures his players do the same. The way he guided the team to super success this year has been a textbook exhibition of management and motivation.
Keane will now look forward to proving himself on the bigger stage – and we have no doubt that super chairman Niall Quinn will support him 100%.
The very fact that Sunderland will be in the Premiership next year guarantees the club at least $30M (pounds sterling) from the global TV rights the Premiership recently announced.
So money will not be at a premium.
The excitement for Sunderland and their fans will be who to bring in during the summer – to cement thier place in the Premiership.
The very last thing they want is to be immediately relegated – which we believe strongly will not happen!
There have been various reports that Niall Quinn (who has been the perfect Chairman to Keane) will bankroll Keane’s buying to as much as $30M – but expect Quinn to make enough money available to Keane – to being in the players he wants.
Niall Quinn – All Dressed up for the Premiership
The Sunderland story (this season) has turned out to be a Cinderella affair – but it’s great for Sunderland, good for Newcastle – and tremendous for the North-East region – one of the great hot-beds of football.
That’s what we think – now calling all Sunderland fans – let us know:
- Who you think Sunderland will sign in the summer
- Where Sunderland will end up in the Premiership next season
