Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s position as the Blues manager is currently safe, but the Chelsea hierarchy could have their patience tested if results don’t improve in the club’s games this week, a Champions League clash with Porto and a visit to Premier League leaders Leicester City. It is understood those two games could decide the 52-year-old’s future.

Mourinho has come under renewed pressure after seeing his side lose their fourth home game of the season against newly-promoted Bournemouth on Saturday as Chelsea still sit in the bottom half of the league table with more than a third of the season having already been played.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was in attendance at Stamford Bridge as the Blues succumbed to their tenth loss of the season, and despite the club having publicly backed Mourinho in October, failure to qualify from their Champions League group could likely spell the end for the Portuguese.

Chelsea host Mourinho’s former club Porto at Stamford Bridge Wednesday night, where a loss could see them drop into the Europa League should Dynamo Kiev win their game against Maccabi Tel Aviv. The European game is followed by a crunch Premier League fixture against Claudio Ranieri’s table-topping Leicester at the Foxes’ King Power Stadium next Monday.

Despite the troubled times, the Chelsea fans are fully behind Mourinho, as there were little noises of discontent following the defeat to the Cherries. Whether Abramovich and the Chelsea hierarchy think along similar lines is up for debate, but Mourinho’s position could become untenable should a bad week become even worse by Monday.
