I have lost count on the number of times Porto striker Jackon Martinez has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past. Last summer, the Colombian was linked with Chelsea but the Blues signed Diego Costa instead. Arsenal and Tottenham are now believed to be the two sides who are leading the race for the striker who has a reported €35m release clause.
Portuguese Media outlet A Bola published a story a couple of days ago citing his agent Henry Pompey (speaking to Radio CRC) that his client could switch loyalties in the summer, “Jackson is well in Porto, but at the end of the season there is the possibility of changing the League.”
While the Daily Star claim Martinez speaking up on a possible switch to the Premier league with Liverpool and Manchester United interested, ESPN claim that the 28 year old could join the Serie A.
The report cites Pompeo speaking to Area Napoli, “We know that it won’t be easy, but his desire is clear he wants to play in Serie A. He would be honoured to have this opportunity. He loves the Italian league and if he were to leave Porto, Serie A would be his first choice.”
It is believed that Napoli are interested in the player while AC Milan and Roma were linked with the dazzling striker in the past summer. So what’s the chance of the player joining the Premier League?
Tottenham could be one of the destinations but with Harry Kane flourishing will Spurs splash the cash if they fail to seal a Champions League berth? The same could be said of Liverpool if they don’t finish in the top four.
Arsenal are interested too but Edinson Cavani (who has been linked) will be a better choice. Coming to Manchester United, its still early to say if they secure Falcao on a permanent deal.
