Arsenal are already struggling badly this season, courtesy of their worst start in the Premier League era, and more bad news await the Gunners, with midfielder Jack Wilshere could face an injury lay-off up-to three months, should he undergo an ankle ligament surgery.
According to reports from The Guardian’s David Hytner, Wilshere will meet a specialist in the coming days where decisions will be taken whether he needs to undergo surgery or not.
Wilshere limped off injured, following a strong challenge from Paddy McNair on Saturday in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat against Manchester United at the Emirates.
In case, Wilshere doesn’t need any surgery, he would still be out for eight weeks to complete his rehabilitation. It is indeed a huge blow for Arsenal and the midfielder, who was just starting to find some form for his club and country.
Jack Wilshere Injury record
Sadly, Wilshere’s career has been blighted by injuries throughout. The midfielder is only 22, and at this young age, he already has had several operations.
His right ankle seems to be the most problematic one; it got cracked in 2011 that forced him to sit on the sidelines for 17 months. However, his left ankle hasn’t been without its difficulty either, as he tries to put more pressure on it in order to avoid any injury on the right foot.
Wilshere left the stadium without crutches or his foot in a protective boot after the United game. He left the pitch in the 55th min, but Hytner says it is unclear whether he aggravated the injury by carrying on.
Arsenal vs Dortmund: Injury News
Arsene Wenger revealed yesterday that Wilshere would be out for a while, therefore the England international will definitely be out for this crucial Champions League tie against German giants Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.
The Gunners will also be without goal keeper Wojciech Szczesny, because of hip injury that forced him off against Manchester United, while Theo Walcott is suffering from a groin problem. Wenger will also be without second choice goal keeper David Ospina, therefore the Frenchman will have turn to the inexperienced Emiliano Martinez.
