The boasts of financial power and the players Arsenal have been linked with means Arsene Wenger is under pressure to put a trophy in the cabinet next season, possibly the Premier League title.

That is something the club’s former captain tony Adams says they are a million miles away from being able to do but it’s very dangerous to underrate Arsenal in the title race next season.

“It’s time that Arsenal won something again, even the FA Cup or League Cup, but I can’t see it, to be honest,” said Adams.

Arsene Wenger is in a better position than ever before when it comes to being able to strengthen the club how he sees fit and the Gunners are expected to complete a club record transfer deal for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain next month.

Arsenal’s title chances boil down to the three main areas of their team, the current position they are in and how they can be improved ahead of the new campaign.

Defensively Arsenal are solid as a rock in terms of the statistics and even led the way in terms of away performances last season.

The defence is the most important part of any side going for a Premier League title because the back four gives a team the best possible chance of holding out under pressure, stealing narrow victories and ensuring the team doesn’t lose.

The midfield is packed with talent and there are players all over the middle four or five positions who can impact Arsenal’s creativity and attacking shape.

Wenger deserves huge credit for organising and creating a squad where there is so much potential in terms of central midfield because that is ultimately the area where the majority of play flows through during games.

However, in wide positions, Arsenal aren’t good enough and need to add a player or players.

“They are still not good enough in certain areas of the team and they are miles off the title,” added Adams.

Nani of Manchester United would be a superb signing in terms of a winger but there is a serious question over whether United would be willing to sell to a side that could hurt them next season.

As for the attack, that only looks set to improve if the signing of Higuain is officially confirmed.

Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott, Olivier Grioud and Gonzalo Higuain would tick all the boxes in terms of pace, strength, height, experience and scoring ability, giving Wenger a pack of forwards he can rotate and use in a variety of different ways.

Wenger himself seems hungrier than ever to set the record straight and finally end the drought for some silverware in North London.

Tactically he’s good enough and when his team plays well, they play a brand of football which is good enough to beat any other side in the global game.

All of the tools are in place, it’s just a case of finding the right consistency in results and Wenger making the right additions this summer but make no mistake about the fact Arsenal have a chance to win the league.

Do you think Arsenal are good enough to mount a title challenge against Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea?
