Arsenal have defeated Premier League champions Manchester City to win the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Arsene Wenger has handed summer signings Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers a start against the Citizens. The Gunners’ Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla opened the scoring for the FA Cup holders in the 22nd minute.
The North London club’s lead was doubled just three minutes before the break as last season’s star player Aaron Ramsey put pass City keeper to make it 2-0. However, the highlight of the game in the second half as French international Olivier Giroud scored a cracker to make it 3-0.
Giroud’s goal was the final nail in City’s coffin as Arsenal sealed their second piece of silverware in less than four months. Their first being the win in the FA Cup final in May, which came after defeating Hull City in the final at the same venue.
