Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho confidently said last month after the signing of Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid that the Blues won’t be doing any more transfers from here on. Well, based on plethora of reports, from both British and Italian sources, it seems that Chelsea boss might remain busy in the last few days of the transfer window.
Italian news media have been covering extensively this week that Chelsea might allow Fernando Torres to leave the club. The Spaniard could join on loan to AC Milan, with his agent being spotted earlier in the day in Milan.
Summer signing from Atletico Madrid Diego Costa has suffered an injury that would keep him out action for sometime. in such a scenario, the club would be left with veteran Didier Drogba, should they sell Torres.
The problem can however be averted if Chelsea buy a striker. Calciomercato in their exclusive report claim that Chelsea have revived their interest in Roma striker Mattia Destro.
The same website claimed yesterday that Premier League rivals Arsenal were also plotting a late move to sign their long term target. Yeah, we say that because Destro had been linked with Arsenal throughout the year at various point of time.
The Gunners enquired about the possibility of signing Destro, as the Londoners face a mini-crisis in their strike department, following the injury of Olivier Giroud.
The Times reported last week that Chelsea were looking at the possibility of signing the 23-year-old with Torres moving the other side as a part of the deal.
Well that option doesn’t seem happening now but Chelsea might tempt Roma with a €25m offer (his reported market price) and it could end up in a fascinating tug-of-war should Arsenal feel the need to make one last ditch effort to sign him.
