This summer is going to be massive for a lot of big Premier League clubs, including Arsenal. The Gunners, buoyed by the FA Cup triumph, and an impressive second half of the season performance, should be looking to mount a serious title challenge next season.
The club may not need a wholesale change in the squad. Rather two or three quality players are needed in few areas of the pitch. Strike department is one of such areas where immediate surgery is required.
Olivier Giroud is a good player but pundits harbour doubt whether he is good enough to single-handedly guide Arsenal to the title challenge. Arsenal therefore need a striker who can guarantee at least 20 goals per season – no wonder why the club gets repeatedly linked with top strikers across the world.
Looking at the latest Arsenal transfer rumours in their search for a striker, here we take a look at four strikers the Gunners could sign in the summer transfer window.
Karim Benzema: Madrid press haven’t reported anything concrete yet about Benzema’s transfer situations, but English media continues to speculate that Arsenal could be leading the race to sign the France international. Madrid could be willing to cash in on the 27-year-old and recruit younger talent in his place.
Gonzalo Higuain: The Argentine was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates couple of seasons back before he joined Napoli from Real Madrid. The deal didn’t materialise back then. Reports suggest the Italian side are willing to part ways with their star asset this summer and they have slapped a €40m price tag on his shoulders.
Alexandre Lacazette: The French striker is in demand after a phenomenal campaign for Lyon and he is wanted by several other top clubs including Liverpool. He recently revealed his desire to move to a Champions League club in the summer and Arsenal could be a perfect destination for the 27-goal striker. It remains to be seen whether he would leave Lyon in this summer or wait another year before making a move abroad.
Jackson Martinez: The Porto striker has enjoyed a great campaign this season, scoring over 30 goals in all competitions. Porto are asking a price in the region of €35m and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal are ready to pay such a high transfer fee for the 28-year-old striker.
