Arsenal are interested in signing former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos on a free transfer this summer, a report from Goal.com claims.
The Spaniard ended his 16-year association with Los Blancos on June 30. He has been widely fancied to join Les Parisiens, but a deal has not been finalised yet.
It is now reported that Arsenal are interested in the experienced centre-back and want to be kept informed regarding any future negotiations.
Sportslens view:
A move to Les Parisiens appears ideal for Ramos with the chance to win the domestic league title as well as the Champions League crown.
He won’t have the same assurance with the Gunners, who are under transition after finishing eighth in back-to-back league seasons.
The interest from the London club has come out of the blue, and it could be agent-driven with the means of getting the best deal for Ramos.
The player’s brother and agent Rene met up with Les Parisiens’ officials on Thursday, and it can be only a matter of time before he joins them.
However, nothing can be entirely ruled out, and the Gunners could yet spring up a surprise by luring the legendary Spaniard to the Emirates Stadium.
The Premier League outfit have lacked the presence of a leader at the back over the years. Ramos would perfectly fit into the role and bring more solidity.
