Manchester United winger Angel di Maria, who joined the Red Devils in the summer, for a British record transfer fee, says his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo is unlikely to return to Old Trafford in future.
Ronaldo has time and again expressed his affection for Manchester United that has prompted media outlets to speculate about his possible return to his former club, but Di Maria feels Ronaldo is happy at Madrid and may never play for the 20-times Premier League champions.
“I don’t think he is coming back to Manchester. It’s hard to quit Real Madrid. Maybe, but I think he’s having a great time and I don’t see that he wants to change,” the Argentinian reportedly told a radio station in his homeland, via Guardian.
Ronaldo joined Manchester United from Sporting in 2003 and in six years’ time went on to become a legendary figure at the club. His agent, Jorge Mendes insisted few months’ back that his client won’t be leaving Real Madrid to join United.
“Cristiano is very happy at Real Madrid and has always been very happy,” Mendes said, via Guardian. “He’s going to break all the records with Real Madrid and he’s going to retire here. He has a lot of love for United because his heart was there for six years, but now he’s only thinking about Real Madrid and he’s going to stay here forever. He’s incredibly happy. It’s one thing to respect the people who remember him but he’s with Madrid to the death.”
Meanwhile, Di Maria has returned to the United side for Sunday’s 2-0 FA Cup third-round win over Yeovil Town, following a thigh injury that had ruled him out for a while.
