Davy Klaassen has left Everton to join Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.

Klaassen only joined the Toffees last summer from Ajax Amsterdam.

There were heavy expectations on him after he managed to help guide the Dutch giants to the final of the Europa League during the 2016-17 season before they lost to Manchester United.

Some even expected that with the influence of Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez, the Toffees would have been able to challenge for a place in the top four ahead of last season.

However, the club struggled and even flirted with relegation before Ronald Koeman was sacked as manager and Sam Allardyce came in and steadied the club.

The Dutch international Klaassen managed just 16 appearances last season and was deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Marco Silva.

This move is perhaps best for club and player.

Klaassen clearly failed to establish himself in England and he will now get another chance to kick-start his career.

He told the club’s website as reported by BBC: “It was important to me to know exactly where the journey was going on the pitch and the ambitions of the club have convinced me,”

“After my exchange with [coach] Florian Kohfeldt, I have a very good feeling that I can make an important contribution here with my abilities.

“The coach wants to play attractive, attacking football. I am really looking forward to that.”
