Spanish international David Villa has completed his move to FC Barcelona after a fee was agreed with Valencia for just over £34m.
The 28 year old has been on the radar for many of Europe’s elite for a number of years now due to his prolific goal scoring for both club and country.
He helped Valencia to an automatic place in next year’s Champions League has he netted 21 times in the league for Los Che.
This news comes after Barcelona president Joan Laporta said on Tuesday that talks between the two parties were going swiftly and that a deal should be concluded by the end of the week. The deal is now wrapped up and Villa will presumably be presented to the media on Fridays after he undergoes his medical for The Blaugrana and puts pen to paper on a lucrative four year contract with the Spanish champions.
Spanish hotshot Villa began his career at Segunda outfit Sporting Gijon where he scored an impressive 20 goals in 44 appearances in his first full season. He racked up the same tally the following campaign before he departed for Real Zaragaoza and Spain’s premier competition La Liga for little as €3million. He spent two seasons at The Blanquillos netting 21 goals in 46 appearances in his debut season and matched that tally the following term. Speculation grew over Villa in the summer of 2005 and European heavyweights all across the continent were keeping tabs. Valencia beat everyone to the punch poaching him for €12million. Once again he flourished in a debut season for his new club racking up his best goal tally to date of 28 and subsequently forced his way into Spain’s World Cup starting line-up for the 2006 World Cup where he bagged 3 times along with compatriot Fernando Torres.
The 28 year old has had opportunities to seek pastures new from Los Che over the years but he has remained loyal to the club committing his services for five year spell that has been seem him score an astonishing 129 goals in 212 appearances for the Murciélagos.
He will now link up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Bojan Krkic at the Nou Camp as the newly crowned Spanish champions add to their impressive CV of star names. President Joan Laporta is set to stand down next month after seven years of service to the Catalonian club and the transfer of Villa is seen as a gift to the Barca faithful. He will now turn his attention to Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas who stated yesterday his intention to join his boyhood club.
