The contract situation of Dani Alves is taking new twists and turns at Barcelona, especially after an impressive performance in the Champions League against Manchester City and in the recent win over Real Madrid at Nou Camp at El Classico.

The Brazil international’s contract will expire at the end of the season and has not signed an extension with his current employers. He is allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club over a potential transfer in the summer, something the player has not done so far.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is unhappy with the club’s board with the ongoing negotiation with the defender as it took too much time for the La Liga giants to get a conclusion on the player’s future.

The contract saga of Alves at the Catalan club has alerted top clubs across the continent. From the Premier League, Manchester United and arch rivals Liverpool, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund,  Juventus and Inter Milan are keen on the services.

Alves had earlier admitted that he would like to ply his trade in England. The 31-year-old is aware that he is having multiple options and is looking for a better contract to from either Barcelona or another club in order to secure his future.

Enrique’s side were constantly looking for a replacement for the right-back and have not found a player to take his position at Barcelona. The situation has put the club in the back foot.

The Blaugrana will enter into the negotiations with Alves and his representative, who also happened to be his ex-wife and convince the player to stay at Nou Camp. It should be seen whether the South American can demand, if he has to continue at Barcelona next season as he now has the upper hand.
