While Chelsea are dealing with double deals at the moment in signing Juan Cuadrado and Douglas Costa, if the reports are to be believed, Duncan Castles in his Exclusive for Goal has claimed that the Blues are also interested in Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko.
Both Fiorentina and Shakhtar are seeking transfer fees in excess of £22m for Cuadrado and Costa, and although Chelsea remain confident in securing a deal for one of the team, but with only a week left to run the deadline, they are looking for other options as well.
Castles claims that Mourinho is a long standing admirer of Sissoko and has identified him as a Premier League-ready reinforcement for his squad.
Sissoko earlier this month had revealed his admiration for Arsenal, claiming if Wenger can give him a call, in case he needs him.
Also, French newspaper L’Equipe claimed that Arsenal have already opened negotiations with the French midfielder, who could cost around £15m.
There’s no doubt that Sissoko represents a lower-cost alternative than other Chelsea targets, but is he the right type of player Mourinho needs at the moment? He is vastly different from both Douglas and Cuadrado, but would certainly bring necessary depth to the squad.
