Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has been enjoying the form of his life at Stamford Bridge this season. Operating as a midfield lynchpin, he has played an integral part in Chelsea’s outstanding league campaign so far, netting two goals and providing 12 assists so far in the Premier League.

Fabregas’ time at Barcelona didn’t work out that well, but he remains closely associated with fellow former team-mates, especially with Lionel Messi.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, when Fabregas was specifically asked whether Chelsea could be interested in signing Lionel Messi, he said: “I would love to have him, would give a resounding yes.”

Fabregas came under media scanner recently for his absence from the Spain national squad, on which Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos questioned his commitment for the national team. When the Spaniard was asked to comment on the matter, he was quick to put cold water on it, claiming it as a past issue that no longer needs dragging into the present. He reiterates however that he doesn’t need to prove his commitment to anyone.

“Diego returned injured from the selection. He missed four games, only played two with Chelsea and reached an agreement in which they decided it was best for him to rest. I went to the doctors where I was advised to take rest.”

Messi has an unbreakable bond with Barcelona, but the Argentine genius sparked wild rumours recently when said he doesn’t control his future at the Catalan club, that naturally generated interest among the tabloids to speculate on his future. He has a reported release clause of €250m and to be honest it is indeed a wishful thinking to lure him, as no clubs would be willing to pay such money in the present financial climate, where accounts are throughly scrutinised under FFP.
