Chelsea are looking to build an English spine to take them back to the glory days and the Premier League champions are eyeing as many as six British players.

According to Daily Mail, the Blues are aware that they have lost their English core and are willing to rebuild it.

The likes of Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ashley Cole contributed to a formidable Chelsea lineup under Jose Mourinho in the past and the Portuguese will have lost all of them when Terry decides to call it a day.

The Blues are looking at several English players to rebuild that spine and the priority amongst them is the Everton defender John Stones.

Although Everton rejected several offers for the England defender last summer, Chelsea have not given up on their hope of signing the talented centre back who they believe will replace John Terry in the long run.

The other players being looked at include the West Brom striker Saido Berahino. Berahino is keen to leave West Brom and could be a handy option for Mourinho when Costa is not firing all cylinders.

Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish, Palace defender Scott Dann and Birmingham winger Demarai Gray are also being monitored by Jose Mourinho’s side.

Finally, if Chelsea fail to land John Stones they could also consider a move for Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles.
