Chelsea haven’t been as active in the transfer market as it was expected from them after a 10th place finish in the league last season.
The Blues new boss Antonio Conte has added Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante to his squad, and could make further additions in the remaining few days of the transfer window.
The London club are interested in signing Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, claims Sport in Spain. It is reported Conte has another €150m to spend this summer, and that their English sources claim Chelsea could offer €90m for the Colombian star.
This claims come after Rodriguez revealed, a couple of weeks ago, that Real Madrid had received an offer of €85m for him, but he wants to stay at Santiago Bernabeu.
“I’ll fight to earn my spot here. I’ll stay at RM, I want to triumph here. I’m going to stay with Real Madrid, I’m going to triumph here. I know the club have had an offer of €85 million for me, but I’m not leaving,” said Rodriguez, as quoted by Spanish newspaper Marca.
The 25-year-old is facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane opting for the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Icso and even youngster Marco Asensio ahead of him.
Sport say Conte believes Rodriguez could add creativity to his attacking midfield, and that the player is ready to force a move away from Real Madrid.
Arsenal were also reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Rodriguez, but it’s not clearly mentioned if they retain any interest.
James Rodriguez signed for Real Madrid in a €75m deal from AS Monaco, after a brilliant campaign at the previous World Cup in Brazil, and could be on the move this summer.
